MARLBOROUGH LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting was held yesterday. Present: The Commissioner (Mr F. S. Smith), and Messrs. Reader; Duncan, Parsons and McCallum.

The_ following applications for sections in the Rimu Gully Village Settlement were approved:—John Alfred Lambert, section 1a ; Arthur David Wells, section 2A; Win. Wilfred Mears, section 3a ; Henry Pope, section '4a; Wm. John Osborne Binley, section sa; Robert Qvenden, section 6a ; Jas. Rosen Boyd, section 7 ; James Amos, section 8a; .William, Simpson, section 9a; Wm. Peter Leonard, section 10; Walter Wady, section 11; Wm. Aitken Russell, section 13; John Henry Leonard, section 14;. Nellie Walker, section 15; Ernest Coleman, section/16; Rudolf Lafrentz, section 17; Harry Rutland, section 18; Richard Geo. Mills, section 19; John Thomas Butter worth, section 22; Wm. In reference to Thos, Harrison's application to lease the waste lands in the Kahutara River fronting on arid adjacent t<> his freehold land, Mr Harrison again wrote.—The Kaikoura County Council forwarded several objections to . the application being granted; and also forwarded a resolution of the Council to the effect: That they were opposed to depriving any of the Kahutara settlers of road access to their holdings or of the water rights now enjoyed by them.—Mr Harrison wrote stating that, he has drawn the attention of the Stock Inspector to the fact that rabbits and noxious weeds require to be suppressed.—Application declined.

A. Maule, jun.,l applied for grazing rights over about 10 acres at the back of his section No. 31, Block V, Wakamarina S.D., and offered to fence and grass the same; (the land having recently been swept by fire).

D. J. Couper applied to lease a piece of land (recently swept by fire) at the back of his section, No. 23, Block V. Wakamarina S.D., offered to sow it with grass-seed.

D. G. Moore applied to lease 10 or 12 acres of land at, the back of sections 33 and . 34, Block V, Wakamarina S.D., which, has been swept by the late fire. :

The three foregoing applications were recommended for the Governor's approval for five years or until withdrawn from the State Forest.

John Bown applied, under section i 115 of "The Land Act, 1892," to purchase 550 acres of land behind his sections, Nos. 15, 17, 18, and 19, Block's IX and XIII, Wakamarina S.D.—Deferred for report regarding the danger of destroying the adjoining reserve. No objections having been received to F. W. C. Nees's application, it "was resolved to recommend the, Minister to grant him an area of 850 acres on renewable lease in Block 111, Onamalutu, subject to increased survey fee being paid;,approximate estimate be-v fore survey, 10 per cent. It was decided to deal similarly with Donald McCormick's application for 640 acres in Block VII Arapawa, S.D., approximate estimate, 8 per cent. E. Kenny applied for an occpiiation license, over section 11, Block I, Arapawa SJ)., (recently swept by fire), and offered to sow the same with grass-seed on condition that, in the. event of any other person getting this land he will be protected for the improvements effected.—The license was granted at the rental of £2 10s per annum; Mr Kenny to be allowed to* sow the burnt area and to be protect-ed-for improvements effected. A. Turner applied ' for a piece of land, about half an acre, lying be r tween section 38, Block 1, Wakamarina S.D., and the Opouri River, in order to plant it with willows to prevent the flood waters from flowing on to his freehold section, No. 76.— Postponed for a report at next meeting.

W. H. Porter applied, under section 41 of "The Land Laws Amendment Act, 1907, for permission to crop his section, No. 18, Block VI, Cape Campbell S.D.—Granted, under the usual cropping conditions'. A Van Asch applied to surrender his miscellaneous lease, No. 382, of lot 7, town of Ward (Flaxbourne Settlement.) —Surrender accepted. The Under-Secretary wrote intimating that the final assessment of the value of land disposed of under section 115 of "The Land-:Act, 1892," should be obtained after the land has been surveyed, and that before the Minister will give, his consent to any such application going to the Governor for approval the approximate value of the land must be submitted with the application.

The Wairau Road Board submitted their schedule of proposed expenditure of "thirds" and "fourths," amou-nt-ing to £76 10s sd, which was approved.—The Awatere Road Board submitted their schedule of proposed expenditure of "fourths" amounting to £118 14s 4d, which was approved.— The Picton Road Board submitted their schedule of proposed expenditure of "thirds" amounting to £47 10s 3d, which was approved.

TRANSFERS

The following applications to transfer were recommended for the ter's approval:—Thos. Watson to Catherine Watson, , (miscellaneous) section 136, Block XXII, Gore S.D: R. Ham wrote stating that he required all his capital to improve his holding at Scarborough, and forwarded a declaration under section 147 of "The Land Act, 1892." G. R. Gilmore to F. J. Beamsley, section 2 Block 11, Cape Campbell o.D.

G. M. Harris to J. E. Harris, G. Harris, jun., and Thos. Harris, sublease for 10 years (L.P. Nos. 23 and 272) sections 10 and 21 Block VI, Gore S.D.

, Mrs E. Godfrey to G. A. M. Kenny; section 129, Block V, Arapawa S.D., (East Road Reserve). \ Mr Kenny wrote pointing out that this .reserve occupies the frontage of his lease in perpetuity, No. 7, and "that it would be very undesirable if an objectionable neighbour got possession of the land. Mr Kenny also wrote pointing out that Mrs Godfrey holds, in addir tion to the above reserve, (L.P., No. 139) section 5, Block V.-Arapawa t S.D. (125 acres). I J. H. HutttoJ. A. O'Dwyer, (L.P.
