AWATERE ROAD BOARD.

Two letters were received from the "W-airau Hospital Board, one notifying the Board that it had been decided that the local bodies should make a ■contribution towards the maintenance of the institution a;t the rate of l-7<d in the £, and stating that the amount due on April would be £168 Is 3d, The other letter, requested the payment by the Board of an overdue contribution.—Received. PROCLAMATION.' A copy of the Government Gazette proclaiming that the weekly half-holir day in the Awatere be held on .Thursday, was received from '/ the Government, j'■ ' , / ■ ' -—' , DRINKING'tROUGS. The 'District -Railway Engineer wrote stating that the Board's request* for the erection of a drinking trough at Seddon would be acceded to. AMOUNT OF "FOURTHS." The Department of Lands and teurBlenheim, wrote stating that the amount of "fourths" available for expenditure by the Board '"w"as £118 14s 4d, and asking that the usual schedule of expenditure be forwarded as soon as possible. ' DUMGREE ROA% A notification was received from the Department of Roads stating that authority had been issued to the Board to,spend £350 on the Dumgree railway station to Upper Awatere Road, and asking for plans.;and specifications 4 of the work.—lt was. resolved, on\ the motion of the Chairman, that the money be expended as suggested. I BLIND RIVER POLLUTION. The Inspctor reported' that no action had been taken by the. Sanitary Inspector in regard to the pollution of the Blind, River crossing. No report had been received from the Inspector. The Chairman moved that the Secretary write to the Sanitary Inspector asking him what steps he intended taking in the matter.—Seconded by Mr Cunningham, and carried. PETITION FROM RATEPAYERS. A petition was received from- the ratepayers of the Awatere Road Board district' praying that the boundaries of the sub-divisions be altered so as to equalise-the amount-of rates collectable from each. It was resolved that a special meeting of the,J3oard be held on the Ist day of Aprils at 1 p.m., for the purpose of passing the following resolution: "That in accordance with the prayer of the petition of ratepayers presented to this Board, a special , order be made altering the existing boundaries of the sub-divisions of • the <listrict to those as set forth in tne petition. -■ ' [The sub-divisions and their boundaries have been previously published.] ~ -' Wk INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector reported that during the month he had paid a visit to the Upper Awatere district, and had found : the roads in fair repair,, and the maintenance men were gravelling in accordance with their contracts. x He gave instructions to have about 30 chains of gravelling done in Long Valley. In the Lower, Awatere district, several of the water-tables required attention. The road through the Taylor Pass was in very good order, and the new road through Dumgree Station was progressing more rapidly than formerly, there being at present eight men working there. The roads in_ the , Flaxbourne district were also in good order,and the various works were progressing favourably. Up to the present, for work competed, the expenditure out, of loan money on the Grass-mere-Clarence Bridge Road has amounted to. £811-9s, and the estimated liabilities in conjunction therewith total £369, which totals £1180 9s. UPTON DOWNS CUTTING. Mr Bursill waited on the Board to draw, attention to the bad state of the cutting leading up »to Upton Downs. It was practically impassable, and he would like the Board to do, something to remedy the matter—-either improve the existing cutting or make a new side cutting. , It was resolved that the Inspector examine the road in question, and report on it at the next meeting of the Bosfcd. GENERAL RESOLUTIONS. \ It was resolved:—"That tenders be called "for metalling from the end of Elven's shop to the end of O'Connor's contract." "That tender* be called for metalling the unfinished part of the road from the end of Elven's shop towards Needle's Creek." "That the Inspector liave the cuTtmg towards Mr Jenkins's property metalled." "That a cheque for £10 5s be paid to the Awatere Cemetery Trustees and . the account closed." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £225 5s 8c general account, and £618" 3s Id loan account, were passed for payment.
