PELORUS ROAD BOARD.

At the monthly meeting of the above Board held on Tuesday last there were ; present:— : Messrs -Reader (Chairman), Hodgson, Fulton, Nees, Dalton and Storey. HOSPITAL CONTRIBUTION. The Secretary of the Picton Hospital Board notified that the quarterly oontributidn to the end of the year of £59 lls 7d was due. LICENSING EXPENDITURE. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chief Inspector <if Stock, Wellington, forwarded slaughtering license for issue to Henry Bennett,

Pelorus Valley. '.' . IVJr H. Bennett wrote applying for a lease of the waste land between section No. 42 and the Pelorus River to enable him to continue his boundary fence in a straight line to the river. It was resolved to inform' Mr Benr nefct that the Board were not aware that they had the power to lease the land. ;

An offer from Mr F. N. Jones, Nel-j son, to supply dog-collars at the same. rate as paid the previous year, was accepted. ' Messrs Hart and party wrote asking if the Board could have the Wai-kakaho-Mahakipawa track cleared as far aa the Reefers' Camp, as it was the .intention of their party to erect a .three-head stamp battery at the Maitakipawa reefs, and it would greatly assist them,if the traok were cleared. "It was resolved to inform Messrs Hart and party that the portion of the track referred to was within the Picton Road district. Mr F. Coombe also wrote drawing attention to the state of the Cullens-ville-Waikakaho track which was impassable in several places. It was decided that the Board's roadman be instructed to go. over the track on the Mahakipawa side and ascertain what was required. Mr A. Gibson wrote in reference to a broken footbridge over a waterhole on the road near the Are-are Greek, Gibsontown.—lt was decided that tenders be called for improving this portion of the road. HAVELOCK HOSPITAL. Mr Price, Chairman of the Havelock Hospital Committee waited on the meeting asking the Board to support several resolutions passed by his Committee to be submitted to the Picton Hospital Board in reference to the requirements of the Cottage Hospital.—lt was resolved on the motion of Mr Nees. "That this Board endorses and supports the resolutions passed by the Havelock Committee on the <3th inst. relative to the Havelock Cottage Hospital." A GOVERNMENT WORK. Mr Price also as Chairman of the Havelock Town Board, said he had been deputed by his Board to ask the iPelorus Board to assist in gravel' ling the road at Manx's Hill and in building a new bridge or culvert at the top of Pickering's Hill, such works being necessary to carry the Pelorus Board's heavy traffic. After Mr Price withdrew it was decided to offer to pay half the cost of a new concrete culvert provided the Board were not called on to assist in the metalling. It was also decided to meet members of the Havelock Town Board on the Mudflat road the following evening to consider the best means of repairing the approach fallen at the bridge, and repairs to this road generally. ANEW BRIDGE. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Hodgson, the Secretary was instructed to prepare plans: and specifications for a new pile and stringer bridge over the Kaituna river at Farnells. GENERAL. The Chairman also gave notice of motion to move at the next meeting that other local bodies be called on to contribute towards the cost of the proposed bridge. The Inspector's action in having the tutu cut on the Mahakipawa Hill road for the safety of sheep driving, was approved. i j The Inspector was directed to proceed #ith gravelling and other work as decided oh, and the Board rose.
