NEW YEAR'S DAY.
THE ATTRACTIONS,
Given fine'weather, there will doubt-: less be. a great-exodus of people from Blenheim and district for the seaport to-morrow, v Never were the people of Marlborough better able to afford a New Year excursion to the seaside. The harvesting operations will detain a small but important proportion of the community at work, but even in this domain there comes a convenient break between the finishing of the harvest in the earliest districts and the commencement in the reaping of the main crops. The railway management are making a bigger bid for popularity and business than ever.. No fewer than six trains are set apart to carry pas^ sengers from Blenheim to Picton tomorrow morning—practically a train every half-hour, as the ChristchurchLyttelton line is wont to boast of. The first will leave Blenheim at 7.35, and the last before noon, at 11.20. Seddon people will need to get aboard^the one train leaving there at 8 a.m., and running right through. There will also be six return trains from Picton, besides the mid-day train carrying the excursion steamer's passengers to Blenheim. The first of these will leave Picton at 4.30, followed by others practically every half-hour until the last goes at 8.45. The regatta at Picton, in which tne rowing events will claim the interest of Picton, Blenheim, and Wellington people, good entries having been made by clubs in each place, promises to afford excellent sport for the holidaymakers; and the arrival of the magnificently fitted and furnished turbine steamer Maori, the latest boat put by the Union S.S. Company on the Lyttelton- Wellington ferry service, will be awaited with interest and curiosity by very many people. The I steamer will be thrown open for public inspection during her berthage at the wharf, and a small price for admission will be charged. At Okaramio, in the western part of the province, will be held the annual sports. The entries being large, and the calibre of the contestants not inconsiderable, patrons should be rewarded, with a, good day's .enjoyable, sport. 'A dance will be held in the township hall' in the 'evening: ••' A Band will be in attendance.
