ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

[press association.]

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 13

At the Addington live stock market to-day there was a fairly large entry of stock, and a large attendance. Fat cattle sold with little or no change, and fat lambs sold well though at lower rates. Store sheep showed an improvement, the fat sheep market was a little easier, and there was a dull sale for store and dairy cattle. There was a keen demand at high prices for pigs. Store Sheep.—There was a small entry of store sheep, mostly shorn wethers and hoggets in the wool. The recent, rains have had a marked effect upon pastures, and there was a brisker demand and all classes, especially wethers and hoggets, sold at an advance.

Fat Lambs.—The entry of fat lambs totalled 330, and they were mostly in prime condition. The butchers were the only buyers, and owing to the increased numbers offered prices fell below the level of the previous sale. Best lots made 15s to 18s 9d, and lighter 11s 6d to 14s 9d. Fat sheep were penned in considerable numbers, the yarding being the largest for some time past (excepting the double market) and about half consisted of shorn sheep. The quality was of fair average, but among the shorn sheep were ■ a number of lots that were only forward stores. There were more sheep on offer than were required by the local trade, but an export buyer operated freely and purchased about 1000 wethers at 17s to 19s 4d, taking sheep that would weigh out at about 521b to 651b. The prices were, however, a little below those ruling before the holidays. The range of prices was : Woolly wethers 22s to 34s shorn wethers 16s 6d to 225, woolly ewes 22s 6d to 24s 9d, best shorn ewes 17s to 21s Id, others 14s to 16s 6d, shorn merino wethers 20s to 21s 6d.

Fat Cattle.—The number of fat cattle penned was 238, and the quality was on the whole very good. There was a fair demand and late rates were nvaintained. Steers brought £7 5s to £12 os, heifers £6 to £10 15s, and cows £5 to £9 15s, equal to 28s to 32s for prime and 22s to 27s 6d for medium per 1001b. A large yarding of veal calves sold at 4s 6d to 50s, according to size and quality. Store and Dairy Cattle.—There was a fair mixed entry of store cattle, several lots showing improving condition. There was a limited demand and a dragging sale. Fifteen to eighteen months steers made 29s to 355, two-year steers £2 6s to £2 11s 6d, two-year heifers £2 14s, two-and-ahalf-year steers £3 18s 6d, threeyear steers £5 2s 6d, three-year heifers £3 3s to £3 19s 6d, dry cows 20s to £3 15s.

Dairy cows formed a small entry of second class animals, and they sold at £3 5s 6d to £6.

Pigs.—There was a good entry of pigs of all classes, and a keen demand was manifested, stores bringing cx T traordinarily high pi-ices. Choppers made £3 10s to £6 7a 6d, heavy baconers £3 to £3 15s, lighter 50s to 58s (equal to 6d per lb), "porkers 38s to 48s (equal to 6£d per lb), large stores 36s to 40s, medium 30s to 355, and weaners 17s to 28s 6d.
