PICTON.
(Our Own Correspondent.)
Thursday. The New Zealand Government training-ship Amokura arrived from Pelorus Sounds this evening. . Two interesting heats in the competitions for Mr W. W. Chambers's trophy and Mr H. Western's medals were rowed off this evening. In the A class, for Mr Chambers's prize, A. Perano and Jensen beat Carrick and Brendt; and for the medals Madsen and Burns beat Young and Smith. Mr C. Philpotts's new launch " Larola" acted as starter's boat, and conveyed a number of interested spectators to the starting point. Under the hands of the Borough Council's staff, Wellington Street is fast improving in appearance. The road haa been well metalled, and the unsightly water-channel on the east side replaced by neat concrete kerbing and water-tables. Mr Tasker (who has bought Mr Storey's interest in the Federal Hotel) and his family arrived in Picton last night.
