The Sydney Mail of the -I.7th jnst. S says:—" Another period of inactivity |, has come over the wheat markets,,both i here and abroad. Our London cable | advises that prices remain steady, but that immediate supplies for Europe are ample for"' requirements, consequently the demand for cargoes has j been neglected. Private messages re- > ceived at the end of the week indicated I that 37s per 4801b c.i.f. could be ob.tained for Australian cargoes, early : shipment. No business has, however, been reported. Locally millers have been "marking time," although not ; refusing to accept any minor offer-' : ing from the country on the basis of 3s lOd to 3s lid; Darling Harbour. The quantity 'so obtained has been limited, the majority of holders wanting 4s, and in the case of one or two, city firms, even higher rates." A small quantity of flour.is shipped from Melbourne to New Zealand, probably for biscuit making purposes. In the exports from Sydney the week before last were 400 sacks of flour. Since December l&t to July 13th 7179 bushels of wheat and 12,785.-sacks.(2oolbs) of flour have been exported from Sydney to New Zealand. There- is a quantity- of both" wheat and oats offering lopally, but.the prices asked, 4s 6d for wlieatj andJTs for oats at country stations, are above buyers' limits.
