The financial position of the club is now on an absolutely sound footing, the excess of assets over liabilities amounting to £1496 9s lOd. The debt to the contractor upon the buildings has been cleared, and a number o£ minor improvements have been effected, including the erection of an ambulance shed at a cost of £50, which sum was donated by the Canterbury Jockey Club from the Trainers' and Jockeys* Provident Fund. During the year further debentures, amounting to £35, have been taken up, and the mortgage on the course has been increased to £1200. The club, however, is now clear of debt in all other directions, and has a balance in the bank of £197 19s 2d. The advantage of haying a regular caretaker has been plainly shown by the general improvement in the appearance of the grounds and the race tracks.
