MEADOWBANK SUBDIVISION

AN INTERESTING SALE

A very largo number of people attended the sale on Saturday of the Meadowbank blodk oi farming land, situated about four miles from the Blenheim Post Office, and recently purchased by Mr Donald McCallum for subdivision and re-sale. The large gathering indicated, doubtless, the anxiety of the public in respect to the first private "cut-ting-up " sale in this district. Mr J. J. Corry was the auctioneer, and he must be congratulated on the success of his maiden attempt with the hammer. Doubtless the nervousness—not altogether unbecoming—will wear off with practice, and the firm's voice will be heard often in the halls of buying and selling. The first lot offered was the Taylor River section, of about 410 acres. This was knocked down, after spirited bidding, to Mr Leonard Gibson, of Kaituna, amidst applause, at £13 per acre. The second section, which was generally considered the^pick of the block, was keenly contested for up to £16, but, not having reached the reserve, the property was passed in. It has since been sold to Messrs McCallum Bros., Waterlea, at £17 per acre cash The Doctor's Flat block was also passed in at the sale, but lias also since changed hands at a satisfactory figure
