THE COLONY'S COASTLINE.

THE PROPOSED MAGNETIC

SURVEY

ERRORS TO BE RECTIFIED

[press association.]

AUCKLAND, May 2. The Hon. Mr Millar states that the press telegram regarding the survey of the New Zealand coast'by the Hinemoa is incorrect. The Minister is negotiating through Sir Joseph Ward to secure for this work one of the Admiralty's sloops, at present laid up at Hong Kong. If a sloop be secured, she will be manned and worked by the New Zealand Government, and commence with the survey of the east coast of the North Island. Bear Island, Kidnappers, and other points are wrongly charted. When the North Island survey is completed the, South Island charts will be tested at various points. If the existing charts be incorrect a new survey will be made.
