A DECENDANT OF THOMAS A'BECKETT.
A descendant of the famous Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas A'Beckett, who resisted with all his might the efforts of his master, Henry 11., to get control of the Church, and was finally murdered by three knights in Canterbury Cathedral, has died in squalor in the City Road, London, from the effects, as the coroner's jury found, of excessive drinking. At the inquest at Shcreditch, a tailor who had known the old man said he had gained a precarious livelihood by sharpening saws in the street, but he had sons and daughters in -ood positions and well to do. Ho ca: >of a great family. The- Coroner: Not- related to 'he famous Archbishop, I suppose?— ; n yes; he was a direct descendant. '
Where are his sons and daughters? —I don't know. He often spoke of them, but never said where they lived In his clothing was found 3s 3d and a pawn ticket for a guinea.
