MARLBOROUGH RUGBY UNION
The adjourned annual meeting of the Union was held last night. There were present: 'Messrs G. Griffiths (in the chair), P. O'Dwyer, A. R. Thomson, A. J. Fisher, J. Morrison, F. W. Dodson, J. Godfrey, and the Secretary (R. Wanden). It was resolved that the Canvastown Football Club be replied to that, haying regard to the circumstances in which they are placed, the Union will allow them to' affiliate as a separate club from No. 1 district, the annual subscription to be £1 Is, but that this permission is not to be regarded as a precedent, and does not entitle them to direct representation on the Union, except through the delegate from No. , 1 district. j With regard to a letter from Mr'j P. Branton in reference to a thirdclass team from Renwick, Mr Dodson stated the Central Club had made arrangements with the Renwick players that they should be allowed to enter | ,as a third-class team, and the Central Club would therefore enter two teams in that contest, , „ The Golden Bay Rugby Union wrote in reference to the representative match for the season.—lt Was resolved that it is yet top early to notify the Golden Bay Union of the date the Marlborouch seniors will visit them, but that they be notified later of the date. ■ ' \ The Secretary was appointed delegate to the annual meeting of the IS.Z. Union. ' It was unanimously resolved that, subject to classification of the players, No. 1 district be allowed to nominate only junior and third-class teiams this season. Of the list of players submitted, P. Macdouald was classified as senior, «nd the cases of' Booth and Brooks were held over for further information.
The High School Club wrote asking to be allowed to enter as a separate club.
A motion by Mr Thomson that the request be granted was lost, the following amendment being, carried, on the motion1 of Mr Morrison:—That the High School be constituted a subdistrict and allowed, subject to classification of players, to enter a team for the third class competition, their players to be limited to boys actually 1 attending the School. The affiliation fee to be £1 Is.
A discussion ensued regarding the printing of by-laws. The matter was held over. " Mr Graham Griffiths was elected Treasurer of the Union. The election of Postponement and Grounds Committee resulted in Messrs F. W. Dodson and A. R. Thomson and the Secretary being appointed. Mr P. O'Dwyer gave notice to move that the Senior Selection Committee be limited to one instead of three members, as at present. , Mr Fisher gave notice of a similar motion in respect to the Junior Committee.
It was resolved that the affiliated clubs be called on. to send in lists of members and make nominations for the various contests by next meeting night. : The Secretary was instructed t» advertise for a suitable meeting room. The next meeting was fixed for Thursday, 2oth instant. '■■■
