LORD CROMER'S GRATITUDE.

Lord Cromer's letter of resignation emphasised that no political considerations of any kind whatever were associated with it. Nothing could "be more effective or generous than the maimer in which the Government bad supported him.
Sir Edward Grey and Mr Balfour eulogised Sir-John Gorst. Everybody, they said, knew how anxious he was to carry out intact Lord Cromer's marvellous policy. They wished him
success
The Times says that Sir John Gorst goes to Egypt with infinitely fairer prospects than those .which were before the Earl of Cromer ia 1883; "
