Much indignation is felt by some tomato growers at the drastic measures taken by the Department to prevent the spread of the fruit pest which has so lately made its appearance here. It has been affirmed by on© who goesin extensively for tomato growing and has had experience extending over many years, that the larvae which have been found in some exceptional cases in decayed tomatoes indicates nothing extraordinary, and the forms of life which have caused such alarm might have been found in any decayed tomato twenty years ago. There ap- i pears to be little disposition on the '> part of some to destroy their plants in obedience to the very peremptory order of the Department, and it is most emphatically denied that the tomatoes show any signs that they have been attacked by the fly, the outsides being quite free from any puncture, and as the deposit of larvae may be the work of some harmless fly or other form of life its presence aolne does not warrant the wholesale destruction of tomato plants. Exhibition officialdom has been causing annoyance once more. It appears that when" the judge of grain commenced to examine the exhibits in the Marlborough Court the other day, the caretaker (Mr Draper) discovered that he was only taking account of five ■entries made by letter of 9th February. He expostulated, declaring that all the grain had been correctly entered; but his protestations were of no avail. Mr Draper refused to allow the judging within the Court to proceed, and the result was-the arrival upon the scene of Mr Mclntyre, one of the Commissioners. Things looked ■ominous for the caretaker until be showed the Commissioner the duplicate of the Marlborough Secretary's letter of February 20th, addressed to Mr Mclntyre himself, making the bulk of the entries. Mr Mclntyre thereupon undertook to look into the matter. Many have testified RHEUMO has permanently cured them from rheuJnatism, etc., after all other remedies had failed.
