PERSONAL.

The marriage of Mr Albert George Bowen, Wellington, to Miss Hilda (Lily) Frances Laney Cribb, daughter of Mrs W. A. Sowman, was celebrated in the Church of the Nativity to-day.

We regret to learn that Mrs Spence, wife of the Rev. B. XJ. Spence, is in- a private hospital in Wellington. Her condition is reported to be very critical.

A Wellington message states that Mr W. Gray, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, who has been seriously ill for some time, is now in a very serious condition, which is causing his friends extreme anxiety. The Rev Mr Coffey, too, who suffered from a stroke of paralysis some time back, is said to be sinking.

On Friday next the Governor will open a convalescent home presented to the city of Auckland by Mr Smith, .of the firm of Smith and Caughey^ Auckland. ■ The Hon. G. Fowlds, Minister in charge of Hospitals and Charitable Institutions, will attend the ceremony. Mr Fowlds will open a hospital fair at Wfeipukurau to-morrow, and then go to Auckland.

Speaking on Friday at the opening of the Pet Show, the Hon. G. Fowlds said it must be a source of great regret that the president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sir John Hall, could not be present. He had visited Sir John that morning, ! and he deserved the sympathy of all the people of Christchurch in his pres- | ent illness. He had taken the office jof Mayor m order to entertain the visitors to Christchurch during the Exhibition, and his hospitality had been : unbounded, although he had been unable to be present at the festive gather- . ings he had inspired.
