Mr Trevisa Clarke, the represeiitative of the mail syndicate, states that he "has no hesitation in saying that before the contract could be carried out there had been difficulties, b«t advices received show that those have Ibeen overcome. When he left London Jihe finances were practically settled, and not until his arrival at Fremaritle did; he hear that there had been a ihitch, which has now, however, feign satisfactorily disposed of •
Mr Clarke reiterates that hisjmission never had any connection with a guarantee; all statements to th© contrary are absolutely untrue. He had nothing to do with anything that "&e- had no. right to under- the contract. When the history of the undertaking is written the people of Australia will have no cause for regret.
