4*— ~ ' AN OUTER HARBOUR SCHEME

GISBORNE, Feb. 16. The report of Mr Marchant, C.E., Tipon the outer harbour scheme for 'Gisborne came to hand to-day. Mr Marchant gives. two alternative ;schem'es in the sonic locality, the one having a calm-water area of 156 acres, with 77 acres from 24 to 44 feet in -depth, and the other an area of 139 acres, with 63 acres from 24 to 22 feet. The former .will cost £330,090, and the latter £37,500 less. It is proposed to build a breakwater of limestone and rubble brought by the railway'a distance of 10i miles, and the estimate included the cost of the railway £22,900. The wharf accommodation provided would .give berthage at j the same time to three vessels: the size of the Gothic, besides other smallpr vessels. It is estimated, that the cost of he wharf would be £40,000. '■■ A .bridge across the river, connecting with the Government railway at Cook's Monument, is included in the scheme. ■■■ ■ '
