'Grand selection, '" Rosshri's Works," arranged by A. 'Owen. -This work introduces much, of "the fgreat domposef 'most popular ioperas, aiid-is one of-the great efforts that'have-made-Mr Owen and the' 'Band famous, iln >P-aris particulai'ly tthfeyv^ere given: a-wonderful reception * after its and its rendition at Windsor 'before the King, k^oeen, and Royal-Court led to its beling "enthusiastically re-demanded. " Jeunesse Doree " (Wandttedfel). Many charming effects will !.be noticed: in this' beautiful number. "Trombone;solo, " Death of Nelson " '■(.Braham). The soloist is Mr Tom ißovislingj'iwhose splendid interpretation - of": this old favourite always creates a * futote. Operatic ■ .selection, '■' The 'Geisha.'" "The selection is very effec"tively arranged, Sand produces all the melodies. National fan- ■ tasia, "Reminiscences of England " '(Godfrey). This' fantasia, arranged by t*the late Mr Fold Godfrey, is considered by many :to be the best of the ? many written by him. Many of the ■ most famous arid popular national airs ■ will be heard during its performance. The entries for the International Band Contest, to be held from Feb. 11th to 16th, ; constitute a record for the Colonies, and possibly for the British Empire. Thirty-seven bands have entered for Nthe selection and quickstep competitions; including combina- * tions from Auckland to the Bluff and the Newcastle City and Code's Melbourne Bands ,'iro'in Australia. For " the solo, quartette, and trombone trio •■competitions nominations have been made by thirty-three bands, including the Newcastle City. The judge of the test and own-bhoice selections and of the music of: the quick-step event will be Lieutenant W. G. Bentley, of Sydney, a British Army bandmaster of high musical: reputation.
