SERIOUS EXPLOSION.
SMELTING-WORKS IMPERILLED AN HEROIC ACT.
[press association.] (Received Jan. 8, 10.12 a.m ) PERTH, Jan. 8. A sensational occurrence happened at the Ravensthorpe smelting-works yesterday. Two explosions occurredthe iirst blew away a few pieces of piping and also exploded in the fore hatch.
The men working in the vicinity made a rush to get away. One, named lownshend, remained, however, and snut ott the water, recognising the extreme danger if the water reached the inside of the furnace. This gallant feat probably saved the whole works "'om being blown to pieces. llie property was seriously damaged but no one was injured.
