M.C.C. V. OTAGO. THE VISITORS AT~THE WICKETS. [press association.] mi DUNEDIN, Jan. 4. I ihe Ofcago-English cricket match he- [ gan at 11.45 to-day at Carisbrook, on an excellent wicket. De Traffiord won the toss, and batted. Harrison and Johnston were the pioneer batsmen, Downes and Fisher bowling. At 13 Johnson lifted Fisher to the long field, where Ackroyd took a good running catch—l3—l—9. Burns was the incoming batsman. The score had been raised to 42 when Burns, ija trying to off-drive Fisher was nicely taken one-handed by Siedeberg at cover-point—42—2—2o. Page then joined Harrison, who was batting very quietly. Page was particularly lively between the wickets. Some of the runs seemed rather risky, but Otago's ground-field-ing was hardly so clean as it might have been. At 74 a double change Wing was tried with Siedeberg mid f ckhoff but the runs came rather faster than before, Page getting several boundaries. A bad misunderstanding between both men at 94 proved fatal to Harrison, who had scored 26. bimpson-Hayward was the newcomer. ■ ■ |
At the luncheon adjournment the score was 142 for five wickets—Page (out) 66.
