Capt. Edwin wired at 1.25 p.m. as follows:—"Northerly moderate to j strong winds; glass fall; tides moderate ; sea considerable on coast after 16 hours." A man named Fred Johnston, whose present address is the Blenheim lockup, has been emulating Lionel Terry in a quieter way. The otlier day he walked into the Chinese laundry in Charles Street and threatened some of the occupants. This morning he was walking along the footpath in Market Street North, and, coming across George Chong sweeping the footpath, assaulted him most desperately, inflicting a nasty wound over the eye with his fist. Chong used the broom in selfdefence to some purpose, and the police state the aggressor got the worst of it. Johnston was arrested, and will be charged before the Magistrate to-mor-row morning. Nothing succeeds like success. The success of our goods brings us fame. Fame is attained by two things, i.e., selling good-quality articles at a lower price than others, and keeping a good and varied assortment of the latest and most stylish goods. We want you to give us an order, and test the truth of this statement. — Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., Agency, High Street, Bienheim. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS.
