He declares that the reciprocal treaty is a goocUoae, and will be of advantage tcTboth countries. He had :an interview with Mr McDonald, a well-kiiown resident of the New Hebrides. The latter entirely approves of the policy enunciated by Mr Seddon, and states that there is a good trade opening between New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. r Mr Seddon received advice from the Secretary of State for the, Colonies to th 3 effect that under a protectorate there would be nothing to prevent New Zealand and Australia opening ports to tr,ade with the New Hebrides.Mr Seddon sails by the Oswestry Grange at midnight to-night. Mr Carruthers telegraphed: "On behalf of .myself, my colleagues, and the people of New South Wales, I wish you and your family a safe return and.continued prosperity for your loved land. Your sojourn in this State and in the Commonwealth is recognised as effecting a better appreciation, if that were possible, between the people of the same kindred, and possessing one common destiny."
