RIFLE SHOOTING.
A friendly match, six men a-sido, between teams from the Canvastown Rifle Club and the Ruapaka Flaxmill hands was fired on Saturday atternoon. Owing to the tricky light, the Rifle Clubmen's constant practice served them in good stead, and they managed to beat their opponents by a substantial number of points. Alter the match the losers entertained the winners at a sumptuous tea, served by Mr A. W. Dillon. Subjoined are the scores; ten shots were fired at 600 yards and 5 shots at 500 yards:— Canvastown Rifle Club.
The final shoot for Mr T. D. Taylor's trophy took place simultaneously with the match, and was won after a good contest by Mr Hill, followed closely by Mr J. Rutland, who Avon thereby his own donation of a bushel of apples as second prize. This he generously conceded to the third man, Mr A. Rush.
