At the meeting of the. Hospital Board yesterday, a lengthy discussion of the new hospital question, which appears elsewhere,, having almost concluded, Mr Armstrong reiterated that Mr White, .speaking before the Borough Council recently, had been reported in the " lilxpress " to have stated that the doctor was.quite satisfied with the old hospital, and that a new one was not necessary. Mr Armstrong thought the Secretary should be directed to write to the Medical Officer and ascertain whether he had made any such statement, for, if he had, it altered the whole complexion. Mr White said newspaper reports were not always accurate, but all he could say was that the doctor said the present hospital was going on satisfactorily, and that the new one would not provide any further accommodation. The Chairman asked Mr Armstrong if he would accept the explanation, but that member was not satisfied, and requested the Chairman to ask the reporter if the statement was correct. The Chairman: I do not think we can go into this matter any further. It has been explained. --[We have looked up all the remarks made before the Borough Council by Cr. White within the past five weeks, and find no such statement, attributed to him. He never once mentioned the medical officer in the matter.]
