ASSAULT BY A BURGLAR.

WOMAN SEVERELY HANDLED

AUCKLAND, May 12

Mrs McCraig, a visitor from Fiji, was assaulted by a burglar at Devonport last night. She entered her bedroom, when the thief seized her by the throat and neck, dragged her to the door, thrusting his fingers down her throat to prevent her screaming, and then bolted. .

When the other occupants of the house arrived the thief had disappeared, and the woman, who was in a weak state of health, had fainted, remaining unconscious for some little time. Her luggage was overhauled, ten sovereigns being stolen.
