PICTON HOSPITAL CONCERT.

The concert in Fay's Hall on Saturday night was altogether an unqualified success. The audience was a thoYpughly appreciative one, and thougii^W9va^ items promised by visitors could"W *>6 rendered through various circuniist&nces, others _ made amends by their good-mature and filled the blank spaces. Encode were frequent, arid pleasantly respw^deo to. Mrs Fantham, and the Misses M3snson, Irvine and Toogood were the re-, cipients of bouquets. Miss Neilson's — a visitor—-song '' Where Deep Seas Moan" was greatly appreciated, her good contralto voice being heard to advantage in that beautiful number. For an imperative encore she sang with taste and spirit ."A Maid of Japan/ Miss Morrison's rendering of "O, Divine Eedeemer " and "The Lost Chord ;; were other favorite numbers, and the encores she gave were greatly admired. The veteran Mr Orr sang with his usual spirit and feeling " Prince Charlie" and "Hearts of Oak." Mr Hobbs took the audience by storm, and when he^ sang " O, Listen to the Band" the audience joined heartily in the chorus. Mrs Fantham sang for the first time to a Picton audience, and was warmly received, as also was Miss Lilian Irvine, who sang two numbers, supplemented by encores. The Picton Band played outride the hall some very atti'apfcjye music. It is expected, as the expenses are almost nil, that with the Government subsidy the amount raised towards the hospital funds will realise £40. Mr Fell, Chairman of the Hospital Board, t}i&nj?ecl all who had assisted in the conceit. After the performance' came to an end, tfoe performers and a few friends had supper oa the stage. Following is the programme ;—Overture, Miss Silvia Williams; song, "Serenade in Summer,", Miss Dawkhisj song, "The Old Brigade," Mr F. Bull; song, "The Flight of Ages," Mrs Fantham; skirt dance Miss Toogood ;song "Where deep Seas Moan," Miss May Neilson: song, " The Last Rally," Mr Hobbs; song, "Sing Sweet Bird," Miss Lilian Irvine; song, " Bonnie Prince Charlie," Mr Orr; song, "O, Divine Redeemer," Miss Morrison • song, " Four Jolly Smiths," Mr Morris; song, "Quick Work," Mr Hawkins; song, "The Lpst Chord," Miss Morrison; whistling solo, Mr Bull; spng, Tosti's " Good-bye," Miss Lilian Irylne, A pleasing item on the programme was Miss Toogpod's skirt dance. Her evolutions were very effective with the various shades of light cast on her dress. Misses L. Fuller and S. Williams played the accompaniments.
