THE RESULTS.

Following are the details of \ho. vacing:— CHAMPION FQ,U^&-Two miles (Amateur Chamj>jon,ship of New Zealand ; pre.se.nt holders. Star Boating Club). Blenheim R.C.—J. M. Jackso.n (str.), E. T. Hegglun (3), j. Girling (2), J. H. Morrison .. (bow), G. Lucas (oox> 1 Wangaiiui R.O.— E. J. Day (str.), T. T. Bell (3), H. F. Tiiley (2)! F. D. Banks (bow), G. Maho.ney (cox) ... ... 2 Canterbury 11.C.— J;. I*. Guthrie (str.), E. C. Littfe (% H. It. ; Brittan (2), ItV'Hobbs (bow), H. Fraser (qqx) 3 Auckland, Union (Wanganui), Invercargill, and Star also started. When the umpire's boat reached, the starting-post the Blenheim O'ew were already on the mark, and the others soon followed. An excellent start was effected, all the boats getting away with a good swing. At the qr.fe and ; a-half mile buoy the Blenheim boat was leading,- with Canterbury second. A mile from l\om<> they had1 increased this distance, rowing 36 strokes to the minute, against Canterbury's 34. The Canterbury boat here lost some ground oil aQqounJ of tyacl stjeeri^, Ahqv^ %*}

mile post, too, the Auckland boat began to show more prominently. Half a mile from home Canterbury, who, with Blenheim, were now rowing 35 to the minute, spurted, but failed to overtake the leaders, who were rowing as strongly as ever. The Wanganui boat also cracked on the pace at this distance, and succeeded in passing Canterbury. The Blenheim cox. was steering an excellent course, in marked contrast to some of the other boys, who were "wobbling" considerably. Approaching the wharf an outburst of cheering was heard, a sure sign that Blenheim were still in the lead. When the time came to " crack on all sail," the black-and-whites proved equal to the cocasion, and, staving off Wanganui's challenge, passed the post winners by between two and three lengths, a length and a-half separating second and third boats. Time, 12min Tfc'ec. The Mararoa rounded the corner just before the start of the race, and her wash inconvenienced the crews considerably, marring to a certain extent for them what still proved a firstclass race, and no doubt affecting the time. The win was a very popular one, and the winners were roundly cheered by the visiting oarsmen at the finish. MAIDEN FOURS (one mile)Star Boating Club— W. S. Fell (sti\), G. H. Fell (3), It. J. Bird (2), A. M. Thompson (bow), E. Buckeridge (cox) .; 1 Avon R.C. (Christchurch). —T; Bradley (str.), F. Deighton (3), L. Deighton (2), W. Ardley (bow), W. Paul (cox) ... 2 Canterbury R.C—H. Kent (str.), J. W. Mackay (3), H. E. Brown (2), M. V. Hill (bow), H. Fraser (cox) x ... 3 The other starters were Petone and Blenheim. Picton, Nelson, and Union (Wanganui) were late in arriving at the starting-point, and were left. The Blenheim boat was in dange"? of getting wedged in between Avon, and Stai'j so drew out, and was unable to regain the distance thus lost. A fine race; won with very little to spare. Time, 6min.

JUNIOR PAIRS (one mile). Union B.C. (Christchurch).—D. P. Malioney (str.), H. R. Mansfield (bow), J. Stirling (cox) 1 Star Boating Club.—W. O. Wilkinson (str.), W. H. Brewer (bow), H. Bothamley (cox) 2 Picton Rowing Club.—F. Scott (str.), C. Parfitt (bow), C. Petrie (cox) ... ..., ... ... 3 The Petone crew also started. The boats had to be brought back twice on account of Petone's breaking before the signal was given. The Stars got the best start, and, rowing in good style, looked like winning; but Union just managed to beat them on the post, with Picton a good third." Time, 6min 43sec. CHAMPION SCULLS, one and ahalf miles (Amateur Championship of •New Zealand; present holder, G. Whelch, Akaroa). , W. Webb (Union 8.C., Wanganui) 1 G. Whelch (Akaroa 8.C.) 2 J. McGrath (Otago R.C.) 3 Also started: Lumsden (Petone), T. Richards (Waitemata), G..H. Fell, and j\. T. Bcndall (St?,r). The boats soon opened out, and at the mile post Whelch was leading, with McGrath second. A quarter of a mile further on McGrath was passed by Webb, who was rowing in fine style. The Union, man then tackled Whelch, who was still in the lead, and rowed him right down, last year's champion signalising his defeat by stopping for a few strokes near the end of the race. Webb rowed very pluckily, and .well deserved his win. Time, 9inin 25sec. YOUTHS'FOURS (one mile). Union B.C. (Wanganui).—G. Aitken (str.), W. Dustin (3), J. Cottrell (2), B. Tremewan (bow), H. - Smythe (cox) ... ... , 1 Star B.C.—G. Pike (str.),"JVKerslake (3), F. Turnbull (2), F. . Gledhill (bow), E. Buckeridge (cox) ...' 2 Canterbury R.C—T. 0. Fox (str.),, G. S. Collyns (3), J. H. Dougall (2), F. W. Parsons (bow), H. , ; Fr.aser (cox) ... ...... ... ... 3 Also started: Wellington and Petcne. From a good, even start, Canterbury and Stars were soon ahead, followed by Union. The Stars rowed 40 strokes to the minute for a time, Union and Canterbury doing 34. The Union crew rowed a plucky race, and were greatly assisted by the good steering of their cox. Won by Kalf a length, Canterbury a- good third. Time, smin 55sec. Blenheim scratched owing to their having no suitable boat. Shortly after the commencement of the race Picton and Canterbury fouled, and never regained their positions. About the mile buoy the Dunedin crew were rowing 39 to the minute, and Stars 35. Dunedin were about half a length ahead of Stars at this point, with Wellington, Picton and Canterbury following in that order. Dunedin then lost some ground through taking • a. crooked course, but once they had righted themselves they regained^ their lead. Approaching the winning-post the boats were in procession, but Stars spurted strongly, and reduced Dune- , din's lead to about halt" a length.
