THE NELSON CARNIVAL. A DEFICIT OF £43.
The balance sheet of the Nelson Carnival was _ presented to a meeting of the Executive Committee this week. Ifc showed a deficit of £43 10s Id. The receipts amounted to £466 0s 6d, and the expenditure to £509 10s 7d.
": The principal items in the receipts were: Cash subscriptions, £66; sale of envelopes, £44; children's demonstration, £41; Chinese fireworks, £95; sale of posters, £28; Athletic Club, £20; Jockey Club, £60;" Trotting Club, £27; Theatre Royal (Operatic Society), £25. The. expenditure," printing and advertising (including posters and envelopes), £158; decorations, £57; torchlight procession, £40; children's demonstration, £58; regatta, £44; Hospital (fireworks), £59 (subject to repaymentl of duty) ; Secretary's bonus, £30;, hire of Theatre £18; and general expenses, £30. The Chairman (Mr Duncan) said that the loss was only a small one, and he. did not think that any serious mistakes had been made. ' On another occasion any small mistakes made this year at the Carnival would be guarded against. Mr Atmore thought that although there had been a small monetary loss, the indirect gain was considerable. There were 2500 visitors, and if each one spent an average of £3 it represented a gain of £7000 to the city. It was resolved that a levy of 2s \al |v the. # be umle gn all guarantors*
