STABLE GROOM BURNED TO DEATH.

AUCKLAND, March 15. A fire at Howick destroyed urawford's stables. Tho groom, Harry Cunningham, aged 63, was burned to death. The fire was discovered about 11 o'clock last night, when it had a strong hold in tho loft, where Cunningham slept. No efforts could be made to save him. Twenty horses stabled below the loft were got out, but four 'buses, a brake, harness, and fodder were destroyed to a total value of £1000. There was no insurance.

•The adjoining Convent hud a narrow escape, the walls being very badly scorched.
