MARLBOROUGH LAND BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Marlborough Land Board was held yesterday morning. There were present: — Messrs A. i\ Seymour, J. H. Redwood, H. M. Reader, and J. Renner. In the absence of the Commissioner of Crown Lanus, Mr Seymour was voted to the chair. The Commissioner reported that at the auction sale held on the 7th inst., section 2, Town of Picton, was purchased by David Brand of Edinburgh) for the sum of £275. — Title to be issued. Mr Armstrong (Chief Draughtsman) was appointed to conduct _the auction sale of pastoral run No. 65 at Blenheim on Wednesday, 28th March, 1906, at 11 a.m. The following applications were approved:—E. /p. Applications by M. Flower and E. H. Young tor a more secure tenure over sec. 64, Block X, Wakamarina.— Deferred till April meeting. The Under-iSecretary wrote with reference to S. Gardiner's application, for 300 acres in Block XI, Wakamarina, pointing out that two petitions from Canvastown, also letters from certain other settlers there, were received by the Hon. Minister for Lands, strongly objecting to any of the Wakamarina block being disposed of without going to public ballot.—G. Forrest also applied to have the land opened up for selection.—The Commissioner wrote requesting that the previous resolution be rescinded, and that the matter be postponed.—The tmder-Secretary requested that no further action be taken.—Resolution of 13th February granting Gardiner's application rescinded. C. H. Turner wrote asking that the Board's decision " that the lease of Pastoral Run No. 94 be cancelled " be rescinded, and that he be granted a lease on a more secure tenure.—Notice of motion was given by Mr Renner that the previous resolution to offer the run as open for selection be rescinded with a view to giving Mr Turner a permanent tenure. R. B. Topp applied for land behind his section No. 10, Block 111, Linkwater S.D., and objected to Mr Roach obtaining any land in that locality.—Resolved that the area of land behind sec. 10, Block 111, Linkwater, be partitioned between Messrs Topp and Roach.
Mr Jacques applied to have the boundary of his miscellaneous lease No. 357—part reserve section 9, Block VIII, Onamalutu S.D.—altered for fencing purposes.—J. A. Lambert wrote strongly objecting to any alteration of the boundary.—Mr Jacques wrote with reference to his application.—A petition was received from W. Jacques, T. Williams, and others, asking that the whole of the reserve for the growth and preservation of timber—part of which was held on temporary lease by W. Jacques—be thrown open for selection. It was resolved that a report be obtained from the Ranger, and that Messrs Lambert and Jacques be asked to accompany him. E. Kenny applied to lease a piece of waste land situated at the juncture of Round Sfcroet and the Crescent, Borough of Picton, for the purpose of erecting a stable thereon, with right of removing improvements in the event of the Board wishing to cancel the lease.—Granted under sec. 116 of the Land Act, 1892, rental 10s per annum.
A. Gr. Manthel applied for the right to cut the flax on section 2, Block XVI Pine Valley S.D.—Mr Manthel waited upon the Board, and stated that he had three years ago cut the same flax, and had then, in ignorance, paid Mr Broadbridge 5s royalty on 45 tons. The Secretary stated that Mr Broadbridge only had a grazing right over the land in question, and had no right to receive royalties. The royalties shou.ld have gone to the Crown. Mr Bi'oadbridge's lease did not give him the least right to tough the fax. —The matter was adjourned till next meeting, Mr Broadbridge to be requested to attend, and give an explanation regarding the sale of flax without the permission of the Land Board, and that he be instructed not. to dispose of more flax on the mining... reserve until the Board has, had time to enquire into the matter. J. Harnett applied for exemption from residence on section 9, Block II; Mt. Fyffe' S.D.—Granted for twelve months.
R. ,de C. Beauchamp, s.g. run No. 18 (868 acres); A. Mclnnes, v-h.s.s. section 332, Block 111 (50 acres); and J. Humphries, s..g, run 67 (377 acres), applied fo;- exchange of tenure to lease-in-perpetuity. — Recommended fpr approval, . \ Mr Buokhurst, Ranger, furnished 13 reports on holdings in the Kaitarau S.D., comprising 6183 acres.r— Defaulters as to improvements to, fee requested to comply. F. Gibson and $3, /Wallace applied to lease the scanty reserve (section 6, Block, XVI) and the school reserve (sc o : 7, Block XVI), Kaitarau S.D.--The Crown Lands Ranger wrote recommending the application —'Resolved to ..grant a, temporary occupation lease of reserve under sec. IJfi of Land Act, 1892, conditions to be drawn up by the Commissioner. J. Nicholas, sen., applied for a temporary occupation license oi section 8, Block XVI, Seddon,-==A.. Manning applied to lease, yojsenpe sec, 8, Block VI, lown. qf Sedclon.—Grvanted, The question dealt with at the last meeting in regard ,to the Kaikoura County Qouncirs request that the Ko-\Y-hai river stock-resting reserve be vested in that body again came up, but was deferred till next meeting. The question of the accommodation provided at %\\& Clarence Bridge was deferred till next meeting.—The conditiqns of the lease, of the "Three Bridges Accommodation House " were approved, and the rental fixed at an upset price of £5 per annum. G. Bartlett applied to have the tence put in the reserve near the creek on sg. run No/ 129.~Referred to Wairau Road Board. 1, B. C. Hey ward's application to surrender interest was postponed.
