Lieut. Irvine, the New Zealand rifle champion, has a large number of badges medals, and when he stepped forth to receive the Belt and gold medal on Saturday for securing, the New Zealand championship, the whole of one sleeve of his tunic was hidden by badges, and his, breast not being able-to hold another trophy, Miss Seddon was compelled to pin the medal to his shoulder. •
It is said that Color-Sergeant Moncrief, of the Christchurch Imperial Rifles, might have won the colony % championship on Saturday, but for ihe enthusiasm of some local marksmen who attended the Trentham gathering. Moncrief shot so brilliantly with bis first seven shots that some Christchurch Volunteer became excited, and rushed along the line, exclaiming " Moncrief walks in." Immediately there was a great rush of onlookers to Moncrief's target, and a crowd of some four hundred gathered round him. His next two shots were misses, and the last an outer. Had Moncrief not \eceived so much public attention at the most critical part of his shooting Christcluirch'might have easily secured the \inii.—^%ytteltqii Times.'
At the annual meeting of tho Canterbvu'y Sheep Breeders' Association, held last Friday at Christchurch, the following new Council were elected:— Southland, Messrs P. Patullo and G. V. Fulton; North Otago, Messrs C. W. Reid and D. Little; South Canterbury, Sir Geo. Clifford and Mr R. Reid; Marlborough, Mr Goulter.
