HOSPITAL FIREWOOD.
A GENEROUS OFFER
The matter of the firewood supply at the Hospital, which was deferred from last meeting of the Board, was re-considered yesterday. A fresh tender was received from J. Scott and Co., offering to supply tawa, delivered, at 26s per cord. Mr White had tendered at 27s for the last meeting.—The Secretary stated th"at the Matron had informed him that "during some months in winter almost a cord of wood per day was burned, eight fires being kept going night and day. Mr Meehan said that there was a year s firewood at the Hospital, and he would undertake to supply any required before March 31st, 1907, it all that now on the ground was gone before that time. . On the motion of the Chairman, Mr Meehan's offer was accepted, and placed on the minute-book. It was explained that'the condition was that all the old poplar wood which had lain on the ground for two or three years should be also used up. . One member said that condition would probably bring on a strike amongst the .staff. The motion was allowed to stand as parsed.
