WAIRAU HOSPITAL & CHARITABLE AID BOARD. i. The monthly meeting was held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Present :—Messrs K. J/Bell (Chairman), S. M. Neville, E. H. Penny, J. G. Armstrong, P. Meehan, W. Murray, W. B. Parker, A. W. Jackson, J. J. White, Jas. Bell, J. B. Richardson, W. Pike. The names of Misses Wilson (Wellington), and O. Peake (Tua Marina), were placed on the probationers' list. F. N. Jones forwarded £1 raised for the Hospital at a magnophone concert. —Mr E. F. Healy forwarded 14s 8d for the same purpose, being the proceeds of sale of wool belonging to Mr J. Greenfield.—Votes of thanks wore passed to the donors. The Ashburton Hospital Board asked_ for information as to the treatment of' non-paying patients.—Resolved to forward a copy of the rules. ' The Trustees of the St. Andrew's : Orphanage, Nelson,wrote stating their terms for the maintenance of orphans. —The Secretary was instructed to furnish information as to the number of orphans now maintained by tlie Board. Mr F. Shaw, contractor £ or the supply of drugs to the Hospital, wrote pointing out that he was suffering a disadvantage from the^ftact that Kempthorne and Prosser last year were refunded freight rates.—lt was stated that the matter would come up when the tenders werc^cpnsidered. Mr J. Gainsfora Bacon and Mr V. Powell, honorary dental surgeons upon the, Hospital staff, wrote stating that a breach ofiprivilege had been committed, a dental operation at the institution having been performed without either of them having been called upon.—The Medical Officer said that certainly the honorary dentists should hasfe been consulted, but without remuneration. He did not, however, know anything of the case in quesi ■ tion. It was resolved that one register grate be installed at the Hospital, instead of the open fire-place. p NEW HOSPITAL. ltf •.," Mr Chatfield wrote asking? that.-» a special meeting of the Board be^arranged for March 22nd,;.rfb accept a tender, if suitable ; or else the empowerment of a Committee to accept. Tenders were closing'on,March 21st. It was agreed, that a special meeting be held on the i4niorning_of Saturday, March 24th, for the purpose of dealing with the tenders. ' . . Dr McGregor., Inspector of Hospir tals, v\frote offering "the opinion that the .BQai'd had acted prudently in the master of the new Hospital. f TRAINING OF NURSJIS. __ The Premier forwarded a'memo, regarding va* scheme for the training of nurses.' He asked whether the Board woulil take on a number of probationers, for the;. purpose of being fcfained, the Government paying £25 • ?per annum for the keep of each one up to a number to be'fixed, on conditions that they have the same training as other regular nurses j to pass the examinations and gain eertrncate.% etc. Mr Meehan urged that the Medical Officer be consulted as to the scheme before committing themselves. On the motion'of'Mr Richardson,the matter was left art the hands of the Chairman and Medical Officer, they to report to the Board on the 9th April. The Secretary was directed to write for further information as whether salaries Avould be paid by-the Board, and whether loqal applications would be given preference. ANNUAL SUPPLIES. The Board then went into Committee to consider: tenders for the yearly Hospital supplies? /,. Tenders were accepted as follows :^-Meat,Jas. Draper, £114 6s 4d ; bread, C. F. Vouchers-'for' £220 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
