The M.H.R. medal given this year by the Hon. Ci ; H. Mills, and awarded to Irene Terrill,'was presented to the winner yesterday at the Education Board's office, before the members, by the Chairman (Mr J. Duncan). Mrs Terrill asked the Chairman to write and thank the donor; and a member of the Boaid advised-the recipient to personally'send a letter of thanks. : At the ' meeting of the Education Board yesterday, apropos the appointment of a certificated teacher to a country school, the Chairman (Mr Duncan) expressed appreciation of the fact that Mr D. Robertson, teacher of the Waitohi School, had secured the " Cl" certificate, one of the highest degrees amongst the primary school teachers in' the district.. ■'.■■■:.-.<
Inspector Strachan, who has resumed his duties after a month's leave, was yesterday congratulated upon his recent marriage, by the the Chairman of the Education Board (Mr Duncan), who said he felt sure . that their Inspector, keen as an educationalist before, had iiow taken the step without the experience of which his education would have been incomplete. A great professor had stated this view of matrimony, but summing up, had doubted whether such a great ' amount of experience was worth the acquisition of so little advancement in knowledge. (Laughter.) However, he was certain tltat their Inspector's action would not lessen his zeal in his profession. He Wished Inspector,. and Mrs Strachan prosperity and happiness. —Mr btrachan suitably responded, remarking jocularly that the Chairman was right m h,is last remark, as they would now probably find they had two Inspectors, instead of one. The niemhers appreciated the joke.
