THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM
WELCOME TO THE SOUTHERN
MEMBERS
[press association.]
CHRISTCRURCH, March 10. The southern contingent of the New Zealand footballers arrived this morning, but the arrangements for their reception were upset by the late arrival of the Mararoa at Lyttelton. Large crowds received the heroes at Lyttelton and Christchurch, but the official reception of the Otago men was cancelled, as they had time only to transfer from the Port train to the South express. Stead, Duncan, Casey, Booth, and McDonald were farewelled
by a large and enthusiastic crowd, which then followed Canterbury's'representatives, Newtown and Deans, to the Mtmcipal Chambers. An official welcome followed, the Mayor and Rugby Union representatives receiving the two players, whose health was drunk. The proceedings throughout were of the most enthusiastic character.
