A PLEASING FUNCTION.
The " Cheviot News " of 20th February has the following : — On Saturday night Mr D. J. The chair was!oecupied by Di Sauadg}# ; m 4 tjje Ijall was well filled. The usual loyal and other toast's were duly honoured, and several gentlemen ; contributed songs. ■Mv 3J K. Lochhead, in proposing the toast of ti«s g^est of the evening, referred to the many good qualities of Mr Scott, who, he said,'was one of the earliest set--1 tiers. He expressed .the regret that was \ universally felt at the loss of Mr Scott ! from Mifs district, and wished him success and i)r6.speiut>y his new career. He did not know anyone! in (ihei/ipt who would be ; missed more than Mr Scott, Mr Scott briefly responded. | Dr Saunders, on behalf of the subscri-; b.ers, then presented Mr Scott with a case of pip.t>!?, sj'Mjh ne hoped, would help to remind hji'moi 4)is wWfJ friends in Cheviot. He also handed him |i' Handsome ; travelling rug for Mrs' Scott, as a mark of : the esteem and appreciation in which she Wfts held by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mr D. i. Replying on behalf of his mother, Mr D. J. Scott, junr., thanked them for the i hearty manner in whicli the toast had been received, and assurred them that if at any time any |one from Cheviot was passing through Flaxbourne, a warm wel,come would always be accorded, to them.
