RAM AND EWE FAIR
CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. At the ram and ewe fair to-day stud sheep were offered. There was a limited' demand for ewes, Shropshires selling at lgn and 1$ gn, and English Leicesters 2gs. Border Leicester rams were in fair demand. John Little's (Montserrat) consignment selling up to 23gs. Two imported rams were offered, one, Wedley D. Hume, selling at 96gs, and the other, bred by A. and J. Kerrsmith, at 50gs. There was no sale for Oxford Downs, and a poor demand for Southdowns, a number imported by Hoult and Sons., Feilding, selling at Bgs and 25 gs, and locallybred rams at 6gs. L. White sold a Shropshire ram bred from imported stock at 67gs, and others at 17£ gs to 30gs. One of Parry's rams also brought 30gs. A few Corriedales were sold at 5J gs to 14gs, and a few Lincolns at sgs to Bgs. Stud English Leicesters were in strong desmand, F. C. Murray topping the market at 52gs. The highest prices for other breeders' lots were: W. B. Andrew, 40gs; P. C. Threlkeld, 39Jgs; W. B. Andrew, junr., 39gs; Isaac Andrew, 37gs; W. Nixon, 35gs; E. Ruddock, 31gs; R. and J. Reid, 37* gs; and D. Grout, 25gs.
