Seven teams competed. The Taranaki team, under Lieut. Hartnell, and the Auckland Mounteds, under Sergt. Maingay, tied; The latter declined to divide,' and in the shoot-off Taranaki won. Palmerston North, under Sergt. Perrin, were third. The prizes were £5,. £3, and £2. COLONIAL AMMUNITION COS MATCH.—Conditions: Teams of six men parade at 800 yds; fire shots afc a head-and-shoulder target exposed for 15 seconds ;then advance 500 yds, shooting on the way as the target re-appears; then retire to the original position, firing as before. No. 2 Battalion, Southland, got on 39 hits ;South Canterbury " A " team, 38;. No. 2 Team, Otago, 37; Taranaki. 35; Opaki, No. 2 Team, 35 5 Karori Club team, 35; Wellington No. 2 Team,, 34; South Canterbury "C" Team, 30; Opaki No. 1 Team, 29; Wellington 2nd Battalion, 29; Ist Wellington, 29; South Canterbury "B," 28; Auckland Mounteds, 28; Waipawa, 25; Engineers, Wellington, 10. CHAMPION TEAMS' MATCH, 200, 600, and 600 yds; seven shots; five men. : . .'•, .■■ :,- This was the chief match of the afternoon, 35 teams taking part. The Opaki Team had a lead at 200 yards, with 162, Christchurch Engineers having. 157; but at 500, the leaders "burst," and Weber, with 159 at 500 yards, was in front, with Ghristchurch . arid Wangrinui, a tiei second, totals being:. Weber 310, Christchurch Engineers and Wanganui Rifles 306. At 600 yards the positions changed greatly, and the Opaki teamy shooting very, steadily, put on the highest score at; this range, 140. One of the Weber Team " burst," but they had a sufficient lead to j ust stave * off defeat, finishing with 439, while • Opaki and Christchurch were second with 437. They will probably fire off. The winners take the district Challenge Shield and £15; the; second and third;money totals £15 10s. " Other prize-takers are: Palmerston Norths? 435, £7i 10s'; Wanganui Rifles, 432, £5; Hawera Rifles, 429, £5: The other "teams ranged from 428 to 369. ' rv v TRENTHAM, March 10. The weither was fine and calm when the shooting was resumed :this morning. So far six possibles have been registered in the Volunteer match which started last evening. T; Murphy,, (Christchurch), Stuart (Ashburtoh), Bennett (Oamarii), Longworth (Dune-: din), and Shanks (Gore) scoring them at sQoydsj"and Haigh (Christchurch) one at 200 yds. - ?:'V V ' The Ojpaki and Christchurch Teams, which tied for second place in the Teams; match,, agreed to divide.
