LONDON, March 8. Mr William Redmond, in a reference to the Cardinal Moran correspondence, asked whether, considering Chief Justice Darley's position, his expressions of partisan feeling were justifiable.
Mr Churchill, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, said that the statement was originally made in a private letr ter to Lord 'EJgin. He did not possess sufficient information of the circumstances, under which it' was published to form ah opinion bf the whole incident. It was generally recognised jthat'it^was" undesirable for officers of State representing the Crown to associate themselves publicly with ,controversial statements in party politics.
