OLIVER'S ACCOUNT.
EDDY HECKLED ON ALL SIDES
THE ESTRANGEMENT WITH
EDDY,
(Received March 9, 8.59 a.m.) • SYDNEY, "March 9. Olivet", re-called, declared that it was neither true nor fair to iay that all the disoourtesyand inharniony between the Commissioners ' was' due to him. Eddy suffered acutely from attacks made upon him.in Parliament and elsewhere',- and leaned tremendously on witness in all troubles. He had no hesitation in saying that Eddy would not have been six nionths in the country if witness had iiot been his: colleague. On one occasion he told witness that he could stand the* attacks no longer,'and showed him his resignation written but. Witness persuaded him to stand his ground. The estrangement with Eddy arose out of * Eddy's intention to ask for increased salary. It was untrue to say that the estrangement lasted six months, and that reconciliation was made only a few weeks before Eddy's death.
