Marlborough Express PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. Friday, March 9, 1906. MARLBOROUGH AT THE EXHIBITION.

IT is gratifying to know that the public meeting held in Blenheim last night has placed on an assured basis the project of Maryborough's repre--sentation at the International. Exhi; bition.. Mr Mclntyre, the energetic travelling representative of the Exhibition Commission, has every reason to feel satisfied with the result of his visit. Order has been reduced out of-something very much like chaos. In a ,pouple .of hours an enterprise which was in a very lame and halting condition was* converted into a definite movement. This change illustrates very acceptably what can be doneby a little wise counsel, aided by the saying quality of pulling together. The (jutcome of the meeting does credit to the citizens and settlers I—particularly'l—particularly' those who took part in the proceedings. It shows that Marlborough pride is a factor to be reckon-, ed with nowadays. It is a pleasure to watch the growth of this pride in the capabilities of jthis part of the colony; 'though, indeed, the surprise would be if this industrial patriotism did not grow stronger as the superior merit of Marlborou'gh's staple, productions goes on asserting itself. : The meeting of jast .night promises a creditable representation of the province; the organisation of. subcommittees wa,s. carried but bri;^ff ectiye lines, the finance was. assured', an& a .keen desire was evi-. fenced t6 display to advantage the excellent wool, cereals, and other things ifchat this locality, produces. One feature/of .the>discussion was the insistence, on the fact that the primary berifent to be gained at the Exhibition will be reaped by the producers themselves—wool and grain growers arid others. Stress was laid on the fej mark that .these are the people who should come, i forward with especial [ readiness to" assist the good cause. This contention, we think, is a per* fectly justifiable one, and ought to be emphasised. At the same time, we have not the slightest doubt that now the project has been.licked into shape and is in good going order, every section of the community whose interests are involved will come . forward in a hearty spirit to give a helping hand.
