Durnam, the Canadian sculler, has intimated that he cannot come to Sydney to row Stanbury, but is ready to make a match in Canada or on the Thames. THE BROOME MURDER. 1 (Received Nov. 28, 9.45 a.m.) PERTH, Nov. 28. Fresh interest has been aroused in the Broome murder. A warder at Fremantle prison overheard Pablo and Hagen discussing the murder. Pablo mentioned that Hagen had no knowledge of the crime, some other white man being the third participant. (Hagen and two others were last week sentenced to death for the murder of a commercial traveller named Liebgild.) THE WRECKED LOCH VENACHAR. ADELAIDE, Nov. 28. A body and a large quantity of wreckage, including buckets bearing the name " Loch Venachar," have been washed ashore at Kangaroo Island. It is believed that the vessel is ; breaking up. NORFOLK ISLAND. (Received Nov. 28, 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 28., After an interview with the chief magistrate at Norfolk Island, Mr Carruthers (Premier) stated that the coffee industry and the whole production were ruined by the Federal tariff and the absence of shipping facilities. He is so impressed with the seriousness of the position that he intends to ask the Federal Government to take over the control of the island. MOTOR RELIABILITY CONTEST. (Received Nov. 28, 0.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 27. The motor run from Sydney failed to decide the contest. None of the competitors lost the requisite number of points to justfiy their elimination. Hobbs was the only one, however, who secured the total points. (Received Nov. 28, 9.58 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 28. With the completion of the run from Sydney to Melbourne the motor contestants completed 1276 miles, whereof 833 were driven under nonslop conditions. The performances are considered equal to the best in any part of the world. Hobbs secured the total number of points, and his actual riding time for the whole distance was 49 hours 12 minutes. Dan ran from Albury to Melbourne with both front springs broken and tied with string. It has not yet been decided whether there will be further tests.
