The Committee of the Railway League met yesterday and -transacted a quantity of business. The winter outdoor games TOfeabdut to give way to cricket, tennis, etc. The annual meeting of the Wairau CO. will be held at the end of nexb^eek. About 250 people were the guests of Mr and Mrs Jones, of Grovetown, yesterday afternoon, the occasion being the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Philip Verooe, ': The Nelson Operatic Society, which produced " Les Cloches de Corneville" seven years ago (just subsequent to the staging of the same opera in Blenheim), have decided to reproduce th« piece for three nights 'daring the carnival week in February. The platforms of all the carriages on the Government railways are to be fitted with gates, similar to those with which the platforms of the imported American cars are fitted. The Blenheim Rifles will commence the shooting season on Monday next with the Opening Match at 200 yds for Mrs Hsrding's cup and about 15 other prizes.-—A friendly match has been arranged to take place at the Vernon Butts on Saturday next, between teams from the Blenheim Rifles and the Ren» wick D.R.C.
