AUSTRALIA v. MANAWATU AND HAWKE'S BAY.

Palmerston N., September 6. Australia defeated Manawatu and Hawke's Bay combined today by seven points to five. The game on the whole was in favor of tbe Australians, who apparently found the dry ground and perfect weather conditions to their liking. Their forwards were clean and clever in foot work, and the backs seldom made mistakes, handling the ball very prettily. For the visitors Wickham kicked a goal from a mark by Oxloy, t*ken near the half-way line, and McLean scored a try. For Manawata Mcßse scored and Ward conver* ted. Between five and six thousand were present at frhe match.
