Christohuroh; July 23, Mr A. Baram (Land Purchase Inspector), Mr Marchant (SurveyorGeneral), and Messrs Priogle and Humphries, members of the Land Purchase Board, have been at Banks Peninsula inspecting properties with a view to pnrchase by the Government* Yesterday they .were inspecting properties in the vicinity of Christchurch.
Mr Qaare, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, read a letter from the West Coast Railway League at Hokitika stating that a strong deputation is being organised on the Coast to make another appeal to the Government in connection with the Midland Railway. The deputation will leave for Wellington on August 24th, and the League expresses the hope that Canterbury will send representatives to join those from Westland.

The Milton railway station was bur* glariously entered at 2.15 this morning and the safe dynamited. The stationmaster, hearing the noise, went down, but found nothing.
