OBITUARY.

FREDRICK COX.

We regretfully record the death of Mr Fred. Oox, which occurred last evening at the private hospital in Litchfield Street. The cause of death was believed to be peritonitis, for which he was operated on late in the afternoon of yesterday, expiring about half an hoar later. Mr Cox's condition was not thought to be serious until Saturday night, he having been incapacitated from active duties for only a week. The deceased, whose age was about 30 years, was in the employ of J. J. Corry & Co. as grain expert, and had previously occupied positions in various firms in Blenheim, to which town he came some four years ago from the Marton district, where he had been engaged in farming. He was married in March last, and his early-widowed partner will have general and heartfelt sympathy in her affliction. Mr Cox was the eldest son of a large family residing near Marton, where he was popularly known, and was a corporal in the Rangitikei Rifles, following up hia Volunteer service as a member of the Blenheim Rifles on coming to this district. Deceased was a grandson of Mrs Allport, sen., of Pioton; and Mrs O'Leary, of Blenheim (till recently oE Spring Creek), is an aunt. Such an untimely withdrawal of a promising life will be generally mourned; and we join in offering earnest sympathy to the bereaved,
