Mr E. Mitchelson was installed mayor.for the second term to day. He stated that during the year the finance had got £2000 to the bad, but the bulk of this went towards purchasing carting plant. It would be necessary to raise a loan for an improved water supply and drainage. If they wished to improve the city they must increase the rates. He expressed regret tbat some suburban bodies looked upon the Greater Auckland scheme as a gain to the city, and stated that this had not been the experience with respect to Poneonby and Graf ton, which had been previously merged in the city, Wanganui, May 4.

Mr A. G. Bignill, the newly elected Mayor, was installed to day. Felicitious and congratulatory speeches were made by the councillors present.

Christohukoh, May 5.

At the Mayoral installation, the new Mayor brought down a new scheme for a high pressure water supply for the central portion of the city, to cost £51,000. He proposed to pump artesian water into a 100 feet water tower.

Napieb, May 4.

Mr S. Carnell, the recently elected Mayor, was installed in office to-day by the retiring Mayor, Mr F. W. Will'ams, and received the congratulations of the Council.
