London," May 2.
Router's Tokio correspondent wires that after five days' fighting, largely with artillery, General Kuroki forced the crossing of the Yaia, and oa Sunday, with a gallant infantry charge over four cailes of front, expelled the Russians from Kiuiiencheng and from the heights on the right bank of the Aiho river, turning the Russians' left flank and sweeping away a new front interposed to check an outward movement.
The position at present held by the Japanese is a dominatiag one, and is likely to compel the abandonment of the Russian defences at Antung and elsewhere .lower down the river.
General Kuroki began this movement last Tuesday, when he ordered a detachment of Guards to seize Kurno Island, above Wiju, and a detachment of the Second Division to seize Kintoito Island, below Wiju.
