THE DANNEVIRKE TRAGEDY.
Press Association. Electric Telegraph, Copyright. Dannevirke, August 24. MoCluskie was until a month ago employed at the Phoenix mill, but has been out of work since. The quarrel started after dinner between McCluskie and iiis wife, The daughter, returning from work, entered the house and found the quarrel in progress, McCluskie put up a revolver, intending to fire-at his wife, when the girl rushed between to save her mother. McCluskie fired. The bullet passed through the girl's lingers and struck her head. He then fired twice at his own head, one bullet entering the skull. The bullet was subsequently extracted. The revolver is a small electroplated weapon of seven chambers, all of which had been loaded. McCluskie was charged with attempted murder this morning, and remanded to Napier for eight days. McCluskie's wound is not dangerous. The girl is making favorable progress.
