THE RACING CONFERENCE.

Wellington, July 17.

At the Racing Conference the Executive was directed to take steps to improve the forfeit list in orde? to more effectually enforce disqualifica tion. The list was stated to be in a most unsatisfactory condition. The Committee appointed to go into the question of dates and permits re- \ ported as follows:—Totalisator per mits—The Committee recommends that the same permits be allocated for the ensuing season as in the past, with the exception that the Palmerston Racing Club is entitled to the permit held last year by the Waikouaiti Club. In the event of any further permits being available they should be allocated to the following Clubs :— Whangarel, Papaknra, Dannevjrke, Waverley, Waitotara, Waikouaiti. Dates of race meetings—North Canterbury Club not to race on September 27th, as it clashes with the Geraldine meeting, and if not racing on date originally applied for to submit date for the Chairman's approval; That Wellington Racing Club ba allotted October 21st and 24th for the Spring Meeting, Palmerston Club January Ist, Northern Wairoa December 26fch and 28th; That Nelson Jockey Club, whose dates are objected to by Grey mouth on behalf of Reefton, shall sub mit dates for Chairman's approval; That the Westland Racing Club select other dates for its Autumn Meeting ; That the South Canterbury Club be permitted to change the dates for its Autumn Meeting to April 13th and 14th.

A petition was read, from a number of professional riders asking the Conference to enquire into the bona fides of certain gentlemen riders. The matter was referred to the Executive to draft a rule on the subject.

A scheme dealing with the appointment of trustees to administer the Trainers' and Jockeys' Provident Fund was adopted by 31 votes to 9. Sir George Clifford, Hon. J, Ormond, and Hon. George McLean were appointed trustees.

Sir George Clifford was re-appointed Chairman of the Conference.
